Book Review: A Severe Mercy

Probably the best Christian book I’ve ever read, A Severe Mercy traces the story of the powerful and well maintained love of Sheldon Vanauken and his wife.  It chronicles and describes many of the methods they used to understand and grow near each other over time which I hope to copy.

I’m less emotional than most (understatement) and I try to encourage emotion in myself.  They seem to reveal how we work and point at the important connections in life (or at least what we treasure).

A Severe Mercy is the first time I have cried without an immediate event as a cause.  I mean this in a good way.  It has a very mature way of looking at love and even has useful insight on grief.

I highly recommend it.
